Overview
Translate Workspace is a Chrome extension and companion website for in-browser translation workflows. This policy applies to the Translate Workspace extension, the companion website at translateworkspace.com, and the onboarding guide page that may open automatically after first install.
Translate Workspace translates text directly inside the pages you use. Depending on the provider route and feature you choose, some data stays in Chrome storage on your device, while some data is sent to remote services that are needed to complete translation, account, support, restore, analytics, or Premium-related tasks.
We do not sell user data. We use data only to operate the extension, the companion website, and related support, account, and purchase flows.
Data We Handle
- Selected text you choose to translate.
- Text you type into the extension UI and translated output shown by the extension.
- Page content when you explicitly use full-page translation or related page-level features.
- Translation history, favorites, UI preferences, themes, layout state, dock state, and other local extension settings stored in Chrome/browser storage.
- Provider configuration you enter, including API keys, model names, custom endpoints, and related provider settings.
- Account and entitlement data used for Premium-related account features.
- Purchase restore data such as purchase email address, license key, and related entitlement details.
- Support request data such as email address, topic, message content, and related product metadata.
- Optional incident or diagnostic metadata when operational incident logging is enabled, such as provider, surface, language pair, and text-length bucket. Incident logging is designed not to intentionally include full raw translation text.
- Website analytics data collected on the companion website and guide page, such as page views and standard website usage analytics.
How We Use Data
- To provide selected text translation, live typing translation, full-page translation, and related extension workflows.
- To save preferences, favorites, history, themes, and workspace state so the extension behaves the way you configure it.
- To let you configure AI providers, API keys, custom endpoints, and advanced translation routes.
- To process account, entitlement, purchase restore, and Premium-related flows.
- To receive, review, and respond to support requests.
- To operate the companion website and measure guide/onboarding usage through website analytics.
- To troubleshoot product issues when optional incident logging is enabled.
Where Data Is Stored
Local in Chrome/browser storage
- Extension settings, favorites, history, UI state, theme preferences, provider configuration, and user-entered API keys are stored locally in Chrome/browser storage on your device.
- Chrome built-in translation may process supported language pairs locally on-device when that route is available.
Remote services used only when applicable
- Translation provider endpoints receive the text needed to complete a translation request when the active route requires remote processing.
- Firebase, Firestore, Google Cloud, and related backend services may store support, entitlement, restore, and account-related records needed to operate the service.
- Google Analytics processes website and onboarding guide analytics on the public site.
- Payment and purchase-restore data may be processed by Gumroad when Gumroad is used for purchase or restore flows.
Sharing and Third-Party Services
Translate Workspace shares data only with the services needed to deliver the feature you use.
- Translation text may be sent to the translation provider currently used by the extension, including Chrome built-in routes, Google Public fallback, OpenRouter, OpenAI, Gemini, Google Cloud Translation, DeepL, Microsoft Translator/Bing, or a custom OpenAI-compatible or custom HTTP endpoint configured by you.
- Support, account, restore, entitlement, and administrative records may be processed through Firebase and Google Cloud infrastructure used by the service.
- Website analytics on the companion site and onboarding guide are processed through Google Analytics.
- Purchase, subscription, license, and restore flows may involve Gumroad when that provider is used.
If a translation feature uses a remote provider, the text needed for that feature may be transmitted to that provider. The policy does not promise that all translation data always stays local, because that depends on the route and provider used.
Companion Website, Install Guide, and Analytics
The public website at translateworkspace.com and the onboarding guide page use Google Analytics. These analytics are used to understand website traffic and guide usage, not to inspect arbitrary browsing content from the websites you translate inside the extension.
The extension may automatically open the guide page after first install so you can learn the core workflows. If that page opens, the visit is handled like a normal website visit on the companion site and may be measured with website analytics.
Retention and Deletion
- Locally stored extension data remains in Chrome/browser storage until you reset it, remove it, overwrite it, or uninstall the extension.
- Support, account, restore, entitlement, and related service records may be retained as needed to operate the service, resolve support issues, prevent abuse, and maintain purchase or account state.
- Incident log records, if enabled, may be retained for operational troubleshooting for a limited period or until removed under internal administration.
You can delete or reduce locally stored data by clearing or resetting extension settings, replacing or removing provider credentials, or uninstalling the extension. If you have questions about remotely stored support or account-related data, contact us using the support method listed below.
User Controls
- You choose whether to enter API keys, custom endpoints, or advanced provider settings.
- You choose which translation routes and providers to use inside the extension.
- You control whether to submit support requests.
- You can reset settings and remove locally stored credentials and preferences from the extension.
- Page translation, form sending, and similar workflows are user-initiated.
Security
User-entered settings and provider credentials are stored in Chrome/browser storage on your device. Remote transmissions are limited to the services needed for the feature you invoke, such as a translation provider, account service, support backend, analytics provider, or payment/restore service. No absolute security guarantee is made, but the product is designed to limit remote transmission to the services required for the selected workflow.
Unsupported Pages
Chrome restricts extension execution on some browser-controlled pages, including chrome:// pages and the Chrome Web Store.
