Overview
Translate Workspace translates text inside the pages you visit. Depending on the provider route you choose, text may stay on-device or be sent to a remote translation service that you explicitly use.
Data the extension processes
- Selected text you choose to translate
- Manual input and output text inside the extension UI
- Page content when you explicitly use page translation
- Translation history, favorites, and UI state stored in browser storage
- Provider configuration such as API keys, endpoints, and model names when you add them
Where data is processed
- Chrome built-in translation is processed on-device when the requested language pair is supported.
- Public fallback routes and advanced providers may receive the text required to complete the translation request.
- If you configure OpenRouter, OpenAI, Gemini, DeepL, Bing, Google Cloud, or custom HTTP routes, requests are sent to those services under the terms you accept with them.
Local storage
The extension stores preferences and local state in Chrome extension storage, including provider choices, dock position, history, favorites, and interface state.
Unsupported pages
Chrome restricts extension execution on some browser-controlled pages, including chrome:// pages and the Chrome Web Store.
